Have you ever thought about a career in the Royal Air Force? Could you be the ears that keep us safe?

As an Intelligence Analyst (Linguist) (Int An (L)) you will find yourself working within a highly trained team, who have the important responsibility of providing timely intelligence to military forces deployed on operations around the world. Int An (L)s play a vital role in protecting the security of UK, National and International interests by interpreting, analysing and disseminating intelligence.

You will listen to intercepted foreign voice transmissions, using state-of-the-art receiving and recording systems. From this you will provide valuable intelligence about actual or potential adversaries and their strengths, weaknesses, movements and locations. There is also the opportunity to act as an interpreter for troops on the ground, translating from native speakers.

You will learn at least one foreign language to a high degree of proficiency and will spend much of your RAF life honing these skills or learning new ones. Whatever role you are employed in, your contribution will be vital to success by supporting operations across the globe and assisting senior commanders in making key decisions.

Bursary Opportunity
A bursary of up to £6000 (£3000 per year) during your 2nd and 3rd year studies, plus £1200 for 30 days training.
To qualify you must:
• Be a university undergraduate reading any foreign language, or a mixed degree including Arabic or Russian
• Be willing to join a University Air Squadron and pass a fitness test annually.
• Be successful in our recruitment process.
• Be willing to join the RAF as an Intelligence Analyst (Linguist) when you have graduated University.

Applicants must:
Residency: Whether or not you were born in the United Kingdom, you should have resided there for the 10 years immediately preceding your application, but candidates with a minimum of 7 years will be considered.
Nationality: You must be a citizen of the United Kingdom or a dual British Irish citizen.
• Commit minimum 3 years’ service post Phase Two Training after specialist training.
• Meet the health and fitness criteria
• Have 2 GCSEs in Maths and English Language (Grade C, Level4/5 or Scottish national 5)

This means that whenever you decide to leave the RAF, you’ll be well placed to find a job in a number of fields. This could include telecommunications, languages including interpreting, analytical work, research, media, information technology or the Civil Service.
