Job Description

As part of this role you will be required to study towards the Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard at Colchester Institute.



The Financial Apprentice will primarily be focused and operating within the accounts payable & receivable functions of the finance department. Core AP responsibilities will include involvement in the invoice processing, matching and query resolution. Core AR responsibilities will include credit control activities with specific ledger responsibility. 



Additional responsibilities will include supporting the Financial Controller of the VS business segment in consolidation of weekly and monthly reporting schedules.



Initially, the successful applicant will be given training in all of the necessary financial and administrative processes required for the job and to support the apprenticeship, training in a broad range of activities within the various sectors of the Finance Team.



Duties: 




  • Core AP activity – Invoice processing to include processing / matching / query resolution

  • Core AR activity – To maintain and take responsibility for specific debtor’s ledgers

  • To provide information for reporting purposes for the relevant areas of responsibility

  • Maintain and improve good processes for business control specific to AR / AP

  • To be able to provide cover in both the AR / AP functions during periods of absence

  • Assistance with consolidation of Group VS results

  • Be part of a finance team helping to supply information to Group Accounting


Personal Qualities :

  • Some experience of accounting within a manufacturing organisation is desirable

  • Confident personality

  • Flexible in approach

  • Able to work as part of a team to strict deadlines

  • Potential for advancement



Skills Required :

  • Good communication skills - written and verbal 

  • Strong PC skills – Excel and Power point



Future Prospects :

  • Potential for permanent job offer at the end of the apprenticeship as a Finance Assistant and continue with profession development and studying support
