Job Description


  • The successful apprentice will support staff members to meet the children’s needs by providing physical care

  • This will include helping children when eating and drinking, ensuring that mealtimes are a time of pleasant social sharing, supporting opportunities for children’s exercise and quiet periods and washing and changing children as required

  • You will also learn how to recognise when children are unwell, providing comfort and warmth to a poorly or upset child, making sure appropriate rest/sleep times are given

  • You will help children to be confident by supporting their social and emotional development

  • This will include assisting children to develop positive aspects of their behaviour, helping them to settle, showing them how to relate to others and care for themselves

  • Along with this, you will help staff prepare and maintain the nursery for children by organising, setting out and clearing away activities and equipment

  • You will be assisting with the preparation and completion of activities suitable to the age and ability range of children in your area and in conjunction with other members of your team

  • You will work alongside other members of your team to assist with communication and support for parents, and other family members when applicable, to help ensure they are aware of their child’s progress and development whilst in our care

  • Along with this, you will be working with parents of special needs children to enable full integration into Little Ones Childcare and to help to ensure the provision of a high quality, professional environment that meets the needs of all individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and at all stages of development, without distinction or exception

  • To respect the confidentiality of all information received

  • Take all reasonable steps to provide a safe and secure environment for all our children at all times. Be familiar with our nursery policies and procedures and adhere to them at all times. To learn and gain an understanding of the EYFS.

The apprentice will need to be:




  • Fun, reliable and outgoing

  • Have a willingness to learn in a busy nursery that is focused on providing high quality childcare

  • You will need to be enthusiastic, responsible, and keen to succeed

  • The ideal candidate must have enthusiasm, dedication and a genuine love of children



Skills Required :

  • The suitable candidate will be caring and passionate about looking after children

  • They will need to be able to communicate with children and adults

  • Be reliable and hardworking

  • Have an ability to follow procedures

  • Work as part of a team and be able to use their own initiative

  • Great leadership skills

  • Organisational skills and confidence are essential

  • An ability to work under pressure

  • Good problem-solving skills and flexibility are desirable



Future Prospects :

On completion of your Level 2 qualification, you will become a qualified child care assistant, and you may be given the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 apprenticeship, which will set you up for a continued career in the child care sector.
