Job Description

Responsibilities and duties




  • You will support the Head Groundsperson in achieving high standards for all sports pitches, recreational, conservation and play areas

  • Ensure all pitches and sports areas are marked out ready for sporting activities

  • Ensure areas around buildings are kept weed and litter free

  • Trim and clear all shrubs and hedges and maintain and cut the grassed areas

  • To assist in spraying and weed control in line with school's health and safety policy

  • To assist in garden maintenance of all the school's properties

  • Keep tennis courts clear of leaves, where practical to do so

  • Keep sewage plant clear of vegetation and keep paths clear

  • Report to the Head Groundsman or Estates Manager, any problems with buildings noticed during normal duties

  • Occasionally help with other departments where necessary

  • To support school events, this may be outside of normal working hours

  • Help maintain school equipment

  • To undertake such other tasks as may be requested reasonably from time to time by the Executive Head Teacher and Bursar



The post holder has a legal duty to take reasonable care of both themselves and others and to co-operate with school on all aspects of health and safety.



The post holder is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom the post holder is responsible, or with whom he/she comes into contact. The post holder must adhere to, and ensure compliance with, the school’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times.  If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare or children in the school he/she must report any concerns to the school’s child protection officers, the Head of Pastoral Care or the Head of the Preparatory School.

Skills Required :

  • A desire to work in an outdoor environment, whatever the weather.

  • An interest in sport/ outdoor activities

  • Organised
