Job Description
Main duties:
- To contribute to a safe, high quality and developmentally appropriate environment for babies and young children
- To support and help other staff working within the nursery
- To work in partnership with the parents, staff and other professionals
- To contribute to the day to day organisation of the nursery in line with the
requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2019, Safeguarding
and Welfare requirements, the Childcare Act 2006 and Health and Safety
legislation - Ensure close supervision of all children within the nursery at all times
- Carry out regular head-counts helping to ensure that staff within the area know how many children are present at any given time
- Work to Kent College and Garden Cottage Nursery procedures for safeguarding
children and supporting others in this - Help to establish an ethos where children are encouraged to express views,
formulate rules and contribute to the planning and organisation of the day - In order to provide a high-quality play and learning environment for the children, help to ensure that the staff are properly deployed and that they are interacting appropriately with the children to meet their individual physical and developmental needs
- To support other practitioners in their daily practice
- Make secure bonds with children and help others to do so, particularly when settling new children
- Maintain and record observations of children’s play, behaviour and developmental progress, to inform future planning, the writing of journals and to support children in reaching their full developmental potential
- To have an awareness of the dietary/medical needs of all children within the room and provide children with healthy and nutritious snacks and food
- Welcome parents/carers into the nursery and wherever possible enable staff to talk with their key children’s parent/carer when they bring and/or collect their child
- Ensure that parents / carers are well informed of their children’s progress and are always welcome in the setting
- Have a pro-active awareness of and responsibility with others for all Health and Safety issues within the room including the administration of First Aid
- Ensure that all room practices, procedures and planning are implemented to deliver inclusive anti discriminatory practice
- Maintain and develop effective communication with colleagues working in the other areas within the nursery. Be prepared to work in other rooms within the nursery when required
- Work in partnership with the Qualified Teacher (if appropriate), SENCO and other professionals working with individual children
- Work to the policies and procedures laid down by Kent College and Garden Cottage Nursery and support others in doing so
- Keep confidential all information concerning children, families and staff
- Attend and participate in regular supervision meetings with the Nursery Manager and contribute to appraisals
- Be prepared to train and update knowledge and skills and be prepared to share knowledge gained with other colleagues
- Participate in all staff and Garden Cottage Nursery meetings as necessary
- Be willing to carry out any other duties commensurate with post
