Job Description

Your role will be to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of dispensing, storage, distribution and customer services, and to implement these in practice.



Day to day duties would typically include




  • Maintain an accurate, efficient and professional counter experience for all of our customers.

  • Support the onsite pharmacist in achieving excellence in our customer experience and meeting all legal requirements.

  • Receiving and checking off orders

  • Stock control and ordering

  • Data input onto IT packages

  • Responding to customer/patient inquires

  • Delivery of medication to customers

  • Collection and handling of prescriptions

  • Merchandising of the store

  • Over the counter sales

  • Ensuring patient confidentiality at all times

  • Joint responsibility for keeping the store well presented at all times

  • Responding to telephone enquiries

  • To carry out other duties which naturally fall within the reasonable expectations of the role.



The vacancy will require you to complete all aspects of the Pharmacy Counter Assistant Apprenticeship framework which comply with industry standard.



In addition to the training provided through the apprenticeship framework, the employer will also provide a full induction programme and ongoing training and support from our skilled and experienced staff.


Personal Qualities :

  • Ideally you will have some experience in a retail environment

  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of maximising retail opportunities via excellent service



Skills Required :

The successful candidate must be computer literate and have excellent communication skills.




  • The successful candidate will be polite, vigilant and have the ability to work well under pressure

  • You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work well on your own initiative and the enthusiasm to complete all aspects of the course

  • Able to comply fully and understand the importance of customer confidentiality

  • Good organisational skills, excellent time management skills and able to work to strict deadlines and multitask

  • Able to build relationships with key partners (GP surgeries, care/nursing homes etc.)

  • A willingness to learn and apply new skills



Future Prospects :

Upon completing this apprenticeship, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification allowing you to work as a Pharmacy Dispensing Assistant.
