Job Description

As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant working towards a Level 3 qualification, you will work under the instruction/guidance of teaching and senior staff to provide educational support to Reception aged pupils and assist the class teacher to  implement the curriculum and respond to the pupils’ needs.


You will:



  • Provide support to teaching staff

  • Support Reception age children to achieve goals and targets

  • Ensure the welfare and safety of the children at all times

  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs

  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including break and at lunchtime

  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits and trips

  • Assist in the planning and preparation of lessons and activities

  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

  • Assist in the general efficient operation of the school in accordance with its policies and procedures

  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required

  • Deliver tailored teaching activities to pupils on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups

  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues when required

  • Guide and monitor pupil progress

  • Help with making resources

  • Carry out administrative duties

  • Look after pupils who have had accidents, need help dressing or are upset

  • Provide support outside of your normal classes, such as covering TA absences



You will have:




  • Good communication skills with adults & children are required, as are good literacy and numeracy skills

  • A good working knowledge of ICT would be helpful to be able to use ICT effectively to support learning in the classroom

  • A calm and patient nature with a mature outlook

  • An ability to maintain complete confidentiality on all school matters

  • Experience of working with children and young people would be an advantage but not essential
