Contributing to the development and maintenance of the IT infrastructure. Building your skills and knowledge around IT networks, hardware and software - and working towards technical accreditations. Helping evaluate new technology and devices. Identify best practice for the use of key hardware & software. Liaising with suppliers to arrange the repair of equipment under warranty. Troubleshooting and assisting IT users for general networking, hardware and software issues such as:
- Network administration tasks including changing user passwords and creating new user accounts
- Help to install, maintain and repair hardware devices
- Assist in the installation/distribution of software/hardware
- Resolve software compatibility issues
- Carry out regular data backups
- Develop an understanding of a range of software and advise on its best use
- Support equipment audits and update the IT asset management system as required
- Keeping track of and prioritising IT support requests
Personal Qualities :
- An interest in technology, along with the ability to grasp technical concepts quickly and easily is important
- You will also need a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to handle a number of tasks concurrently
Skills Required :
- Can demonstrate good problem-solving skills and working practices in relation to the handling of IT equipment
- Computer literate, with an awareness of standard business software (Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook etc) would be an advantage
- Some knowledge of the installation, configuration and repair of IT equipment (gained whilst as school/college, home or voluntary/work experience)
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Able to multitask, stick to deadlines and work on own initiative
Future Prospects :
The opportunity is part of the ICT Apprenticeship and is aimed at those individuals looking to start a career as IT Support Technician, Hardware Engineer, Network Engineer, Desktop Support Engineer, Helpdesk Professional or Technical Support Analyst.
It is predominantly based at the employee's premises.
