Job Description

The successful applicant will be given full support in a Mechanical Apprenticeship and will spend their time across the shop floor in assembly, honing, manual machining etc.



You will have placement throughout the business processes (manufacturing and assembly) to support theoretical understanding and development. This Cross-functional placement / involvement in all functions of an Engineering organising will allow you to accrue an overall view and appreciation of how the organisation functions.



Regular duties to include:




  • Mechanical Assembly of Pneumatic and Hydraulic Suspension units for Armoured Vehicles

  • CNC and Manual experience in the manufacturing processes of the products



Education History



To help us to be as accurate with your information as possible, you will be required to provide us with your education history. The majority of our apprenticeship opportunities are government funded. Where an intermediate (level 2) or advanced (level 3) apprenticeship is government funded, your potential employer may be ineligible for funding if you already hold a qualification at level 4 or higher, such as;




  • Higher National Certificate (HNC)

  • Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE)

  • Higher apprenticeship

  • Higher National Diploma (HND)

  • Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE)

  • Foundation Degree

  • NVQ Level 4

  • Degree with Honours (eg BA Hons, BSc Hons)

  • Degree apprenticeship

  • Graduate Certificate

  • Graduate Diploma

  • Ordinary Degree (without Honours)

  • Postgraduate Certificate

  • Postgraduate Diploma

  • Masters Degree (eg MA, MSc, MBA, MPhil)

  • Integrated Masters Degree (eg MEng)

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

  • NVQ Level 5

  • Doctorate (eg PhD, DPhil, EdD, DClinPsy)



If you hold any of the above qualifications, you will be required to provide full details when asked at application.



The Bath College Apprenticeship Team will look at your qualifications to check the apprenticeship will not duplicate any training or assessment you have received from any other source, however please be aware, in some cases previous higher learning may exclude you from an intermediate or advanced government-funded apprenticeship.


Personal Qualities :

The ideal candidate for Horstman Defence Systems will have a "can do" attitude along with a willingness to learn new skills. It is also key that you have a continual improvement mind-set.



Skills Required :

Horstman Defence Systems are looking to recruit an apprentice with a good level of education in math and English. The ideal candidate would also have a qualification in a "hands on" practical subject. The ideal candidate would also have an indication/interest in the application of mechanical minded attributes.



Future Prospects :

On successful completion of this apprenticeship should a post be available on completion you could go down various engineering pathways such as going onto be an Assembly Technician, CNC/ Manual Machine Operative, Process Engineer or Manufacturing Engineering.
