Job Description

Specific Duties 

  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff

  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department

  • To undertake and successfully complete suitable college courses throughout the training period, achieving the academic grades and practical skills in order to entitle yearly progression

  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health and safety within the workspace

  • To learn how to maintain shopfloor equipment and to keep it in good repair

  • To maintain a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned

  • To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace

Other duties required

  • Undertake the induction programme as devised, and assist, as requested, in the induction and training of new staff

  • Participate staff meetings, supervision meetings and training, team development sessions and other meetings as required

  • Share responsibility for the effective use of systems and procedures regarding records, finance, staff communications, and the dissemination of good practice and effective working methods

  • Share responsibility for good health and safety practices, including participating in fire drills and risk assessments, and reporting to line-management any matters of concern

  • Undertake all duties in accordance with Qi policies, with particular reference to the Equal Opportunities, Environmental, Quality and Health and Safety polices, and work towards their continuing development and implementation

  • To have a keen interest in electronics and/or metrology (measurements)

  • To have good IT skills 

  • Good attention to detail

  • To have good manual dexterity (particularly for the mechanical based post)

Future Prospects :

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there may be an opportunity for full time employment.
