Job Description
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is an independent hospital and medical charity that provides rehabilitation and long-term care for adults with severe disabilities arising from brain injury or illness, including support for their families. The organisation was rated as 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September 2017.
As a charity the RHN has to raise over £3M in voluntary income each year to pay for vital therapies and services that improve the quality of life experienced by people with severe or complex disabilities caused by brain injury. The Trusts & Major Gifts Team have increased substantially the income generated through this stream of fundraising in recent years, with a current income target of £1M.
The Trusts & Major Gifts Intern will work with an established team of fundraisers and have the opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to lay down a solid foundation for a career in fundraising.
Main Objectives and Key Responsibilities of the Role
The position will proactively lead on all administration associated with Trusts and Major Gifts fundraising and undertake other fundraising tasks as required within the team.
Draft letters to supporters
Assist in updating team records
Research and identify new trust funding opportunities
Identify appropriate ways of engaging prospective and existing trust donors e.g. through events, visits, non-financial tie-ins such as volunteering, pro-bono assistance, non-financial gifts and advocacy.
With the help of the Trusts & Major Gifts Manager, prepare and submit appropriate funding proposals based on RHN's services, capital and equipment needs
Contribute to the RHN Fundraising Department £3.4M income target
Familiarisation with all streams of fundraising including: Events, Individual Giving, Legacy, Online, Trusts, Corporate and Major Donors
Develop and apply knowledge of Raiser's Edge database and other essential fundraising tools.
Assist at fundraising events on an ad hoc basis.
Work with a highly skilled fundraising team to learn the basic principles and practices of fundraising from administration through to relationship management.
Use the department's resources to learn about fundraising theory.
