The Opportunity

An Operations Apprenticeship at our brand new manufacturing site in Bolton, working in an open plan working environment with state of the art manufacturing facility and laboratories aimed at aiding your learning and development. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join an apprenticeship scheme that has developed winners of some of the most prestigious apprenticeship awards in the UK.

On this 4 year programme you willstudy towards a Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. You will work within our business on rotational placements for the remainder of the week. This way of studying allows you to earn an academic and nationally recognised qualification as well as gain hands on learning experience within a professional and friendly workplace. You will be trained to solder to internationally recognised standards and achieve an Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship qualification (equivalent to a Level 3 BTEC qualification)

This "hands-on" programme includes placements within the business in:

  • Printed Electrical Circuit Manufacturing
  • Cable Manufacturing
  • Missile Assembly
  • Missile Integration
  • Missile Test
  • Calibration & Maintenance

As well as a variety of placements you willhave the opportunity to undertake developmental training and support:
  • An induction event that allows you the opportunity to interact with all ECP new-starters, and integrate into the business
  • 2 x 1 week residential courses to develop skills, such as team working, business communication, presentation and project management skills.
  • 2 day career development workshop at the end of the scheme to assist you moving from an apprentice into the business.
  • A breadth of experience and support is available which includes a buddy system to welcome you into MBDA, access to the mentoring scheme and regular informal meetings with other Early Careers Programme (ECP) members and managers.
  • You will also get fantastic opportunities to bring your technical knowledge to schools as a STEM ambassador.


What we are looking for from you?

Candidates are expected to have a minimum of either of the below;
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and Science at grade 4 or above
  • Candidates must have good attention to detail, have dexterity for fine work, a calm and patient nature, and be confident in learning with a "can do" attitude.
  • A dedicated attitude.
  • A willingness to learn and apply newly gained knowledge quickly.
  • To be capable of working as part of a team and on your own.
  • Ability to balance workload between college and work commitments
