Job Description

Creating the cars of tomorrow is a challenge around 40,000 passionate Jaguar Land Rover colleagues take on every day. The way cars are created and driven is changing. And we are leading that change. Our vision is for a cleaner, smarter, more connected world where autonomous, connected, electrified and shared vehicles will replace the environmentally impactful world of the internal combustion engine. Throughout our history we have always taken on the challenges of creating the most prestigious, sustainable and desirable cars.

Automotive systems are increasing in complexity and are highly distributed across the vehicle platform. Electronics systems and their components are the driving force behind our cutting-edge customer facing features, from assisted and automated driving, to the quality of life improvements our customers expect in using their vehicles. The robust design and implementation of a complex system powered by electronics helps positively shape the customers’ experiences through benefits that can be relied upon day in and day out.

At Jaguar Land Rover, our electronics and complex systems engineering teams are responsible for designing and developing these complex systems and their components, to provide the experiences that customers will love for life. During your placement you will work in one of our electronics/complex systems teams and develop experience and insight into our engineering approach.

Within electronic and complex systems engineering there is the opportunity to use cutting-edge tools and processes to follow the systems engineering process. Using model-based techniques to support the design and early validation of the system, and proven electronic design practices, you will support in providing premium features and consistent quality that our customers expect from the Jaguar Land Rover brand.

There are many different projects that you could be engaged in from the beginning including participating in the system architecture design of the next generation driver assistance systems, lighting features or a world class interior cabin experience. You will engage with stakeholders across the vehicle platform, ensuring that a robust design is implemented by developing the behaviour and interaction between electronic control units to support distributed state logic. Providing quality products for our customers is at the heart of everything we do so we take a proactive approach to identify potential failure modes and noise factors so mitigating actions are put in place to ensure a robust product system is released to the customer.

You may also support the system and vehicle diagnostic strategy ensuring that all the intricate work that is completed in the systems design phase can be understood by the dealer network. By understanding the intricacies of the design, it will be possible to identify when and how the system might fail so our technicians are able to positively calibrate or change the correct part of the vehicle system - minimizing the impact to our customers.

Qualifications

  • Excellence runs throughout our entire business and we expect you to be the same. So, as well asbeing on track to secure a degree in systems engineering; electrical engineering; electronic and communications engineering; computer science; software engineering or cryptography at 2:2 level or higher, you’ll need drive, creativity, a keen eye for detail, and a never-ending commitment to delivering results.

Please be aware that our undergraduate placement opportunities are only open to penultimate year students (i.e. students who will be returning to their final year of study following their placement with us); or returning to university to study a Masters.

This undergraduate programme has a fixed start date commencing June 22, 2020 and will run for a duration of three, six or 12 months.

  • If successful, you must have permission to work in the UK by the start of your employment
