Job Description

Vacancy Description



During your 18 months as a Zeiss apprentice, you will gain experience working with some of our departments, for example:




  • The factory (a general understanding of how a factory works)

  • The process engineering team (driving Lean methodologies)

  • The Quality team (auditing of product and process quality)

  • Various other touch points in the business that link with the factory



You will be responsible for:




  • Your academic progress

  • Ensuring that you make best use of on the job training opportunities

  • Being reliable in terms of attendance and timekeeping

  • Contributing to the teams hosting and training you

  • The quality of your work



Principle Elements:




  • Use SAP order replacement parts for production

  • Document preparation or return to stock and reject items

  • Data entry for CCC Strips (Excel Database)

  • Data entry for Production Tracking information

  • Managing stationary level in Production and reordering  

  • Replenishment of Microscope identification cards

  • Production Standard Documentation Preparation

  • Communicate with other functions and departments within the Carl Zeiss organisation as required

  • Participate in Lean activities as required and suggest improvements to processes and procedures

  • To help drive continuous improvement and identify waste in test processes

  • Follow processes and procedures consistent with ISO standards

  • Compliance with Company procedures and controls (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001) as defined

Skills Required :

Technical Skills




  • Good numeracy and literacy skills

  • Able to use apps and software, e.g. MS Office Excel and Outlook

  • Able to type

  • Experience of administration work or data inputting



Soft Skills:




  • Good at detailed work and accuracy

  • Ability to focus and complete jobs

  • Problem solving skills

  • Time management skills

  • Interpersonal and social skills



Future Prospects :

  • An apprenticeship with Zeiss can lead to a variety of careers in your chosen field

  • It depends on what vacancies are available when you complete your apprenticeship and sometimes you may have to take a different role to your preferred one until you get an opportunity to move, providing you are suitable for the role

  • Once you have completed your apprenticeship and if you secure a first role with us through applying for relevant vacancies, it is our policy to develop our employees further and to give them the opportunity to progress in the business

  • We must be clear that there is no guarantee of a permanent role at the end of your apprenticeship

  • This can happen because there are no suitable vacancies at the time, although we try to plan ahead to avoid this situation, or it may be because an apprentice has not performed to the high standard required during the apprenticeship
