If you believe that people should have a say in their own support and that they should be at the front of making meaningful change then this could be the traineeship for you.

Who we are

We are Shelter. We believe that a home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best in class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

About the role

As Housing Advice Trainee, you will gain valuable experience working with a lead provider of homelessness and housing advice and support whilst being part of an exciting new programme. We'll give you a comprehensive introduction to the traineeship and a work placement within the Westminster team which will help you develop skills in housing advice, including providing information and support. In addition you will, undergo an exit phase focused on learning and the evaluation of your placement, with the aim of securing future employment.

About you

We're looking for individuals with personal experience of homelessness, the passion to effect change and a real interest in developing a career working to tackle homelessness, including rough sleeping. With a flexible approach and the ability to work as part of a team, you will want to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Basic computer skills, e.g. word processing, the internet and email systems are helpful, but support can be provided. Above all, we're looking for enthusiasm and a desire to develop and learn new skills.
