Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Trainee to join our Employment Services team, based in our Birmingham office.

This role has been put in place to provide support and assistance to all members of the Employment Services (Employment Taxes) team, to include participation in compliance and planning employment taxes work, team-administration, and taking ownership of certain regular routines and procedures.

Study towards the ATT qualification will be provided, with the opportunity to progress to CTA. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop and progress in a great learning environment.

Dains is a regional firm of accountants & business advisers specialising in growing owner managed businesses in the Midlands. Our primary offices are in Birmingham, Burton on Trent, Derby, Lichfield, Rugeley and Stoke on Trent. Our services include accountancy, audit, business recovery, forensic accounting, insolvency, corporate finance and tax advice.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax work

  • Involvement with the completion of statutory employment-taxes returns
  • Support in undertaking tax research
  • Support with ad-hoc client projects
  • Email updates to the team on employment taxes related recent developments by undertaking regular news checks, and keeping the team's reading list up to date
  • Ad-hoc support in relation to payroll

Team administration

  • Organisation of meetings and calls, both internal and external
  • Filing of the team's client correspondence, both manual and electronic
  • Monitoring and pursuing required responses to correspondence/communications
  • Attending client and internal meetings with colleagues and taking meeting notes

Routines and Procedures

  • Bi-weekly employment taxes update emails to the firm
  • Undertake the client-engagement process for new clients
  • Have responsibility for update and maintenance of team control processes
