Job Description
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Training 2000 at their automotive centre based in Blackburn. Here you will attend on a day release (Light & Heavy Vehicle) or block release (paint, body & MET) basis to complete the off the job training. This comprises of you completing a technical certificate, VRQ L2, over a period of two years and is awarded by The Institute of the Motor Industry.
This Level 2 apprenticeship covers the technical needs for basic repair and preparation procedures. It provides essential knowledge and skills for vehicle body paint operators.
The learning programme involves learners studying both the theory and practical aspects, including:
- preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
- preparing and applying fillers and foundation materials to vehicles
- repairing minor paint defects
- preparation of substrates used in the automotive industry & the application of undercoats right through to the preparation for the application of topcoats
Learners will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in the industry.
