The role ?

As an Apprentice Software Engineer you will participate in the Apprentice Scheme and train to become an effective Software Engineer. You will be working with a variety of teams at Iress and will have involvement in all of the stages of the software development lifecycle including architecture, coding, implementation, testing and documentation.

What you will be doing

Designing

  • You will learn and understand requirements at a technical level, developing appropriate knowledge of the existing and future product technical strategy.

Developing

  • You will learn to code in key technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, Python and SQL and gain an understanding of how to read technical specifications

  • You will be involved in planning, creating and executing effective tests for your software and investigating and resolving any issues within the system.

Consulting

  • You will gain a better knowledge of the latest development technologies and keep up to date with technical trends within the IT industry

  • Participate in walk through and formal code reviews with other team members

Planning

  • Work closely with the Delivery Team Leads and Technical Leads at all stages of the project ensuring development is completed within agreed quality levels and time scales

  • Ensure that there are no surprises, using both formal and informal methods of communication

  • Maintain accurate records for time recording purposes

What you will need

  • A passion and keen interest in technology and software development is key! You will need to be enthusiastic and keen to learn through the Apprenticeship Scheme
  • The ability to work as part of a diverse, cross functional team
  • Good time management skills - you will need to be able to successfully juggle a variety of different tasks and effectively manage your work load
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs A* - C/ 9-4 including Maths, English & a Technology subject or equivalent qualifications
