Job Description


  • The Health and Fitness apprentice will work within the Flex Fitness team at our Tyne Metropolitan College and Queen Alexandra Sixth Form campuses to support our fitness and community offers that include internal and external community provision

  • The apprentice will promote a clean, safe environment for all Flex Fitness customers, whilst offering advice with regards to training, health and fitness as required

  • They will be equipped with specialist knowledge around enhancing the health and wellbeing of a range of individual clients

  • The role will be flexible and the apprentice can expect to work varied shifts with some evening and weekend work included

  • The role will include supporting with the maintenance and cleanliness of the gym and other sports facilities and duties will include opening and closing the facilities (once deemed as competent), dealing with money as well as working with customers to plan, deliver and evalute exercise programmes

Skills Required :

  • Ability to deal with money and follow cash-up procedures

  • Good organisation and administrative skills

  • Promoting the benefits of physical activity and supporting behaviour change

  • Working collaboratively internally and externally to the college with partners and organisations

  • Contributing to the Flex Fitness team, evaluating current practice and implementing changes under the direction of the H and F manager

  • Supporting the employer to evaluate, develop and promote fitness sessions

  • Able to maintain personal safety and wellbeing of participants

  • IT literate including the use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Good organisation and administrative skills

  • Ability to reflect on and develop your own practice in providing exercise and physical activity 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation



Future Prospects :

On completion of the apprenticeship the individual would be able to move into a Fitness role within the Sport and Leisure sector which may be aligned to a higher apprenticeship route. This progression may involve working within a larger organisation as a duty manager or similar.
