Job Description

The Apprentice will be an integral part of the Move More team, improving the level of PE and school sport across the area. The apprentice will work in specific primary schools as well as within the Move More team assisting in programmes in primary, secondary & special schools throughout the network. The apprenticeship programme will include being involved in national and local programmes, school sports festivals and cluster events, School Games competitions, supporting major network events, placement opportunities in local schools, as well as working in the Network’s coaching team and supporting community based holiday camps. The role will also afford the successful candidate the opportunity to become an ambassador for healthy living and a role model to young people, helping schools to utilise their Sugar Tax sports funding in a sustainable effective manner. The role will specifically focus on helping pupils to develop healthy eating habits and routines, through providing advice and guidance relevant to nutrition and exercise as a 'Schools Health Activator'. Support in developing the successful candidates knowledge in these areas will be provided through the apprenticeship training, which explores the UK Chief Medial Officers recommendations for physical activity for varying age ranges (and methodology to achieve these). The objectives of such responsibilities is to make a genuine and tangible impact on the long term physical and mental health of children and young people. This apprenticeship is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people, inspiring them to get more involved in physical activity and promoting positive experiences within a school environment. It is also a unique chance to build a portfolio of current, relevant and varied experiences, showing many employability skills: subject knowledge, project management, leadership, organisation, communication, time keeping and reliability. The Apprentice will be committed to their own personal professional development and will be able to take advantage of the teacher training programme and coaching courses available to them. The post will also provide the successful candidate the opportunity to showcase their creative flair, through the preparation of press releases and newsletters, so to champion the achievements of local schools and pupils, whilst also overseeing event certification, wristbands and confirmations regarding subsequent rounds of competitions. The successful candidate will possess an abundance of charisma and be determined to see young people succeed; whilst simultaneously bringing strong communication and social skills in working with both pupils and PE staff.



The role will be varied and duties will include:



Primary School deployment: 




  • Assisting in the creation of a fun, positive, safe and inclusive learning environments.

  • Supporting small groups and individuals in the teaching environment, for instance those with learning, physical or health plans, the least active, the more able pupils

  • Promoting key health messages and acting as a community 'activator' to engage young people in developing lifelong health and well-being initiatives

  • Setting up activities, clearing away resources, looking after all sports equipment (ensuring it is fit for use, in the right place and in good order), maintaining wall displays etc. as guided by teaching staff

  • Developing and assisting with the provision of lunchtime and after school sports clubs, including Change 4 Life Clubs

  • Involved in co-ordinating off site sporting events, willing to accompany students on educational visits, outings and sporting / PE events as supervised by the teacher or senior person responsible

  • Involved in administration tasks including letter writing, bookings, transport arrangements, marketing, social media etc

  • Developing positive relationships and acting as a role model to others at all times, as well as acting as an ambassador for the school and Move More



Move More Deployment:




  • Assisting with the organisation and delivery of various events across primary, secondary & special schools, including fixtures and inter-house competitions and events

  • Working alongside the coaching team to deliver high quality sessions in primary schools

  • To deliver on the Move More holiday schemes to primary aged pupils

  • To deliver on the Move More Maximise your potential and Sportsability programmes

  • To assist in the office with general administrative tasks, as well as keeping equipment and resources in good order

  • Providing leadership training for pupils to support in their development, whilst simultaneously supporting the capacity and efficiency of hosted events



Additional duties and administrative tasks may be required on occasions as consummate with the role.

Skills Required :

A full, clean driving license will be required, as the role will involve traveling between local schools and events, in addition to a clean DBS certificate.




  • Experience of working with children and young people within physical activity, sport and education. A child-centred approach at all times

  • To be able to interact and communicate appropriately with pupils, parents, school staff and colleagues

  • An understanding of the key triggers that can help young people to develop positive habits for their own physical and emotional health and well-being

  • Experience and the ability to work across a range of PE and sport activities i.e. Level 1 and 2 NGB awards

  • To act as an ambassador of Move More at all times, conducting oneself in a way as to not bring the name or school into disrepute

  • Level 5 Certificate in Primary School Physical Education Specialism

  • Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership
