About us

Hunter Aitkenhead & Walker are a firm of Chartered Financial Planners, based in rural Leicestershire, providing financial advice and oversight of pensions & investments.

Recently we:

  • have been shortlisted as finalists for the Money Marketing small firm of the year and Moneyfacts retirement adviser of the year
  • have been awarded the Pension Transfer Gold Standard by the PFS
  • been accredited retirement specialists and later life advisers by the PFS

We provide an holistic financial planning service based around lifetime financial modelling techniques, we arrange products and services where necessary and are usually engaged to provide ongoing advice and oversight.

We also provide specialist advice to senior staff in defined benefits pension schemes on pensions taxation and optimal opt-down/opt-out points.

The role

This is a new role, which will absorb some of the duties currently carried out by the administration team and the advisers. There will be some degree of overlap between roles and as small business it is important skills are sufficiently shared so that individual roles can be covered during absences.

The role will include client data gathering and recording, product research and analysis, building and manipulating financial lifetime models and co-writing suitability reports.

We are interested to talk to

  • experienced qualified career parapanners; or
  • people working in administration for financial planning firm and looking to develop into paraplanning; or
  • recent graduates with a financial services or economics degree.

Ideally we would see the role develop into a 'secondchair' financial planner, where the paraplanner attends client meetings and works fully alongside the lead financial planner.

We are growing organically and will need to increase our infrastructure, so there will be opportunities for someone to lead a growing paraplanning team or become a lead financial planner, if desired.

In terms of the package, we offer:

  • Salary from £22,000 PA for trainee
  • Salary from £30,000 PA for an qualified career paraplanner
  • 20 days PA holiday, plus bank holidays, increasing with years service
  • 8% employer pension contribution, DIS and PMI
  • Funding, coaching and paid leave for study

Primary responsibilities (after induction and training)

  • General office administration, including post, scanning/copying, record keeping, call answering, diary management.
  • Maintain client records.
  • Gather and analyse client personal and product data and record.
  • Attend client meetings as "secondchair" to chartered financial planners.
  • Research and analyse product/services and co-manage firm panels.
  • Build lifetime financial models and manipulate to determine optimal solutions through various 'whatif' scenarios and stress tests, considering client needs, taxes, liquidity, risks, care needs and estate planning.
  • Match products and portfolios to client needs.
  • Obtain/produce pre-sale product documentation
  • Co-write suitability letters and co-manage suitability templates and enclosures.
  • Co-produce annual review meeting packs
  • Co-produce post review ongoing suitability letter/new actions suitability letter.

Knowledge and experience

  • At least 5 years relevant experience for an experienced paraplanner hire.
  • At least 1 years relevant experience for an industry experienced trainee.
  • A recent financial services or economics degree for a non-industry experienced graduate trainee.

Qualification requirements

  • GCSEs grade A-C in English and Maths
  • An experienced hire must have CII Certificate in Paraplanning as a minimum, ideally level 4 diploma and working/willing to work towards Chartered status (or equivalents)
