Job Description

Key Result Areas




  • Assisting with all areas of operation including the gym, community and student sport and health programmes, and reception

  • Welcoming and directing gym members and users of the centre, ensuring all are dealt with efficiently and pleasantly and with the highest standards of customer service

  • Inducting new gym users and designing and developing appropriate health and exercise programmes with new and existing clients

  • Providing a presence on the gym floor, approaching to assist members with their exercise programmes in a courteous and friendly manner

  • Checking, cleaning and maintaining all equipment and fitness areas to the required standard as per the schedule set out for each area

  • Setting up and taking down equipment to meet the needs of programmes as detailed on the daily booking sheets.

  • Supporting the reception staff and providing cover as appropriate

  • Helping to promote use of the facilities, taking bookings and supporting the sale of memberships, including tours of the facilities

  • Dealing with general enquiries, queries or concerns relating to members use of the facilities in a diplomatic, polite and positive manner and reporting to the line manager as appropriate

  • Carrying out duties with an awareness of health and safety for themselves and others

  • Undertaking a shared responsibility for health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout the Centre, reporting all faults through the appropriate channels

  • Being familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. fire drill and evacuation

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with grade


Personal Qualities :

  • An interest in and understanding of gym based exercise

  • Commitment to ensuring the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults



Skills Required :

  • Good communication and telephone skills

  • Keyboarding skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • The ability to work without supervision

  • Readily able to communicate and work with others

  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and commitment to accuracy

  • Commitment to improving own performance and the use of own initiative

  • Suitable to work with young people and vulnerable adults
