Job Description

Aggregate Industries Higher Apprenticeship offers numerous structured development paths in one of the following areas:, Aggregates, Cement and Concrete.  During the Apprenticeship you will complete a Foundation Degree in Mineral Products Technology at the University of Derby, but the learning doesn’t stop there. Throughout the apprenticeship you are given the opportunity to attend various courses organised by the Company’s central Learning and Development Team. 



Whilst on site you will be given a tailored training plan to work through and are supported by both your allocated Mentor and your Manager. On a day to day basis you will be given greater exposure to your division and the roles of your team members. Our overarching Company value is Health and Safety and to assist you in understanding the underlying concepts of this value, we require our apprentices to complete an NVQ Level 4 in Health, Safety and Environment.  



As an employer we are committed to developing young people through our business. We currently have around 150 apprentices and graduates, working towards their ultimate career goals and achieving great success. 



It is required that you hold a full UK driving licence for this role (due to nature of the role).



Job duties: 



Dependant on your placement in time you will learn how to: 




  • Optimising the effectiveness of their team by actively participating in daily/weekly briefings, appraisals and reviews

  • Working with all members of the management team to continually raise the Health, Safety and Environmental standards of the company

  • Plan, process and produce materials and products such as Minerals, Concrete, Cement, Cementitious Products

  • Maximise productivity of mineral extraction, Cement or Concrete products processes by making cost effective use of resources, products and equipment

  • Identify ways to improve processes by monitoring production process and end product

  • Monitor and report deficiencies across site (performance, product, equipmment) to senior managers, including products, people and equipment

  • Ensuring all contractors who carry out work on-site are inducted, monitored and supervised to ensure safe working practices are adhered to

  • Ensuring that all plant and equipment is maintained to a high standard and all production systems and products comply with all current quality standards

  • Ensuring all company and regulatory inspections and reports and completed

  • Liaising with the sales team and customers to ensure the site delivers the highest standard in customer

  • Explore and evaluate options for reducing or recycling waste

  • Successfully completing the apprenticeship programme

  • Ability to work as part of a team using own initiative

  • Knowledge of the construction and infrastructure materials industries



Future Prospects :

After completion of the 3 year Higher Apprenticeship, there are a number of options you may choose to pursue including:




  • Optional progression to the BSc Honours Degree in Mineral Management

  • A career in an Operational Supervisory role

  • Or, given the size and scope of our Company, an exciting career in another division/department
