Job Description

As a quality inspection apprentice, you will learn how to use and operate a CMM Machine and interpret data. You will start by spending time in all departments in order to gain an understanding of the overall business and how components are made. This is an exciting opportunity to learn all aspects of the quality role, interpreting technical information and specifications. You will undertake the measurement of precision manufactured parts and make decisions about overall quality and identifying compliant and non-compliant parts using CMM and conventional mechanical measuring equipment. Your duties will include but not be limited to the following:




  • Operating a CMM Machine eventually learning how to program

  • Non-destructive testing

  • Gauge and equipment calibration

  • Assist in the review and disposition of parts identified as internal rejects and scrap

  • Assist with containment activities within Manufacturing to prevent any quality concerns being passed to the customer

  • Join 8D problem solving teams to help ensure root cause of issues are fully understood and robust corrective actions are implemented

  • Audit processes to ensure Manufacturing teams are operating in line with ISO9001/IATF16949 quality system requirements

  • Interpreting Data

  • Working to ISO procedures and eventually amending and implementing new procedures in line with any changes

  • Checking the quality of goods

  • Work safely at all times, complying with health, safety and environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements

  • Learn how to interpret engineering drawings and Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P’s)

  • Learn how to check supplied and manufactured parts to ensure they meet tolerances and technical specifications

  • Learn to identify and use the correct equipment to carry out the inspection of mechanical products

  • Become competent using Vernier’s, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Go/No-Go gauges as well as Co-Ordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)

  • Learn how to follow the correct inspection procedure for the product or equipment being inspected

  • Become able to check linear measurements as well as geometric features

  • Learn how to identify and record out‐of‐specification features 

  • Become able to undertake investigations into out of tolerance parts and where appropriate, obtain a concession for out‐of‐specification products

  • Learn how to quarantine out of specification products clearly, marking them as out of tolerance

  • Become able to move compliant products to the correct location on completion of the inspection activities

  • Learn how to carry out first offs and patrol inspection activities



You will eventually be able to confidently deal with problems within their control and report those that cannot be solved.
