Job Description
Here at Hooftrek we are training a small herd of Welsh Mountain ponies to carry equipment for people hiking the trails through the Radnor Hills and Cambrian Mountains of MidWales. Through this, we hope to give the feral ponies a commercial purpose to enable the ever decreasing upland herds to regenerate and thrive. Much of the work will be exploring trails and training pack ponies. We are creating a business where people can come and spend time exploring the Welsh landscape with the ponies in their natural habitats. From shorter guided hikes to self-guided multi-day treks across the country, including a Trans Wales Pack Pony Trail.
We are now looking to expand our team, and need trail guides/trail guide assistants to help us throughout the summer. The positions are residential / live out, if living in you will be staying in a comfortable farm house set in the hills.
We are looking for Candidates who:
>Have experience of working with ponies / horses.
>Have a sociable disposition and enjoy working with people
and children.
>Are competent map readers and route finders.
>Experienced lightweight campers and hill walkers.
>Possess a full driving license.
>What the successful candidates will be doing:
>Assisting in the training of the herd
>Assisting with general duties eg: feeding, grooming, mucking
out.
>Exploring the Welsh mountainside.
>Leading guided pack pony hikes.
>Spending lots of time walking in the hills.
We offer succesful candidates:
>Full board - if applicable - in a comfortable old farmhouse set deep in the Welsh mountainside – all expenses paid.
>Invaluable experience in pack pony management
>Remuneration – £800 upwards for the season (6-8 weeks).
