Job Description

We will support you to generate reports on spacecraft health and status and assist with the management of spacecraft control hardware and software. You will learn to develop spacecraft Flight Operations Procedures using the SPELL (PYTHON based) language and perform functional checks against spacecraft software simulators. You will also be involved in developing spacecraft telemetry displays and performing functional checks as well as delivering training exercises using spacecraft software simulators.



Job Purpose:



Perform spacecraft operations functions in support of the Avanti fleet of geostationary communications satellites and associated ground systems.



The position will suit a methodical individual with an interest in technology and a desire to embark upon a career within the space industry.



Core Responsibilities:




  • Generate periodic reports on spacecraft health and status

  • Assist in the management of spacecraft control hardware and software

  • Develop spacecraft Flight Operations Procedures using the SPELL (PYTHON based) language and perform functional check against spacecraft software simulators;

  • Develop spacecraft telemetry displays and perform functional check using spacecraft software simulators

  • Develop and deliver training exercises using spacecraft software simulators



Additional Information:



Apprenticeship: This post is an apprenticeship role, at salary grade.



A clear induction and development plan will be provided to support your apprenticeship.



This will include:




  • Tasks/processes to be learnt, how they will be learnt, the support that will be provided

  • Milestones for achievement and how and when each will be evaluated

  • Skills, knowledge and experience to be gained, how and when

  • Other learning, development and support needs identified as required and appropriate

  • Your induction and development plan will comprise of 1:1 meetings for the first 4 weeks, moving to fortnightly for the following 6 weeks, and monthly thereafter

  • There will be two phases of to the induction and development plan. Firstly, building basic knowledge and capability in core areas. Secondly, embedding knowledge and capability in the tasks associated with the duties outlined in the job description

  • There may be times when you are required to work outside normal 9-5pm

  • Some requirement to travel (within UK & overseas)


Personal Qualities :

  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and follow an appropriate course of study to achieve a level 4 qualification

  • Able to follow instructions accurately to complete work tasks

  • Able to record information and data accurately

  • Ability to work alone without constant close supervision

  • Able to solve problems

  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal)

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Relevant workplace experience
