We run our programmes in collaboration with Make UK (was EEF), where you’ll work towards a nationally recognised qualification. We are looking to employ 2 multi-skilled maintenance apprentices to take on a 4 year apprenticeship encompassing manufacturing equipment, the operation and maintenance of a number of fully automated production processes and factory quality.



You will gain experience in industrial scale computerised control systems and an understanding of Continuous Improvement techniques, condition based monitoring, vibration analysis, and preventative maintenance.



As part of the programme you will be working towards an Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification. The initial engineering basics training will be broad based and you will be expected to attend training in association with Make UK at their Training Centre in Aston and to complete all assignments and modules set by your Make UK tutors to a high standard.



Once trained you will:




  • Provide breakdown cover, both mechanical and electrical. 

  • PLC problem diagnoses and resolution 

  • Maintenance on robot systems

  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics problem diagnoses and resolution 

  • Responsible for optimising and sustaining process performance

  • Identifying and leading improvements

  • Training down of 1st line autonomous maintenance

  • Maintaining adequate records of all breakdown and planned work

  • Use root cause analysis methodology to improve plant

  • Work with engineers and carry out project work

Skills Required :

  • No prerequisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in engineering through school or hobby interests

  • To be I.T. literate and familiar with Microsoft “Word”, “Excel” or equivalent software

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately

  • Aptitude for practical engineering skills 

  • To work with efficiency, accuracy and to be able to meet deadlines

  • To be able to prioritise workload and work under own initiative

  • High level of flexibility and dependability



Future Prospects :

GKN champion personal improvement so once you have completed your Level 3 Apprenticeship, you have the opportunity to get support for any further education. You will become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer on completion of your apprenticeship.
