Job Description

Fleet Maintenance Level 3 Apprenticeship - Body Repair Technician

  • Three-year programme, starting September 2019
  • Study a Level 3 apprenticeship standard for Technicians who become skilled in mechanical, electrical and trim (MET), panel repair/replacement plus preparation & paint.
  • £12,400 per year (£1,033pm) to £13,900 per year (£1,158pm) starting salary dependant on age plus location allowance e.g. £325 per month inner London or £233 per month outer London. and benefits
  • Rising annually to a minimum of £27,900 per year (£2,325pm) on completion of the programme and end point assessment
  • 17 weeks training throughout the programme undertaken in 1-week blocks with an industry leading Apprentice training provider at their designated technical training academy (accommodation and travelling costs are met centrally)
  • Includes driving lessons if required
  • Three GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science, at grade C/4 or higher required

About the programme

Vehicle maintenance at Royal Mail isn’t what it used to be, we now do body work on all makes and models of vehicle for the general public and our business customers.

We repair the body work on 50,000 commercial customer vehicles a year in addition to anything needed by our own fleet of 47,000 vehicles – including 6,000 HGVs & Trailers. We rely on a crew of vehicle body repair technicians to handle everything from changing a lamp unit to repairing extensive body damage whilst keeping up with rapidly changing vehicle technology including electric vehicles.

Who we’re looking for

Over three years we take individuals with a flair for working with their hands and taking pride in the finished article, and turn them into automotive body repair experts. Our Apprentice Body Repair Technicians become skilled in mechanical, electrical and trim (MET), panel repair/replacement plus preparation & paint. They learn through on-the-job training and classroom learning;
