Job Description


  • Ensure a high standard of patient care to all patients and professionalism should be maintained at all times

  • Maintain a high standard of work and adhere to Archway Dental Practice policies

  • Ensure high standard of cleanliness of all clinical and cross infection areas

  • Set up and prepare the surgery for the type of patient and treatment planned before the start of each session

  • Prepare the necessary instruments and materials

  • Ensure that the patient’s dental laboratory work is available and in surgery prior to starting your session

  • Provide clinical chair side assistance to the dentist, including; completing patient treatment forms, clinical charting and clinical notes on the computer using Exact Software from SOE, updating patients medical history, mixing materials, passing and transferring instruments, aspiration, assisting the dentist when taking x-rays and when taking impressions, decontamination of laboratory work

  • Mixing materials, passing and transferring instruments, aspiration, assisting the dentist when taking x-rays and when taking impressions, decontamination of laboratory work, communicate appropriately and sensitively with patients and recognise and assist with dental and medical emergencies

  • Maintain and prepare equipment and materials for dental radiography. Prepare patients for radiographs within the practice. Process radiographs using Velopex machine and mount films 

  • Clean all working surfaces and sterilise all necessary instruments between patients, ensuring cross infection control procedure is adhered to, to a high standard

  • Clean and sterilise all dental instruments/equipment and working surfaces to a high standard at the end of each session, ensuring records are kept up to date

  • Carry out regular tests to ensure all equipment is in working order and keep up to date record documents and report and faults or irregularities to the Head Nurse

  • Set up instruments and equipment using aseptic techniques

  • Ensure surgeries are stocked up at all times with all necessary instruments and materials

  • Greet and welcome patients to the surgery in a friendly manor, offering assistance where needed

  • Monitor and maintain stock control by informing the senior reception staff regarding items to be ordered

  • Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to minimise cross-infection, according to the Archway Dental Practice Policy

  • Contact Laboratories, other Clinics and Disciplines in connection with models, appliances, specimens and results in relation to patient treatment and care

  • Any other duties given by the Head Nurse / Dentist
