Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and self-motivated person with strong interests in working with people as well as with horses. 



You should be confident with the care and handling of horses and must also have the ability to supervise groups of students to ensure their Health and Safety as well as the welfare of the horses at all times.  Good communication skills are essential as you will also work alongside fellow Equine staff in instructing a variety of student groups on good working practices. 



Main duties and tasks will include:




  • To assist with and (where appropriately qualified) deliver sound and high quality instruction in equine duties, in accordance with industry standards and those laid down by the College Authorities.

  • To assist with the safety and wellbeing of all horses and ponies in the absence of the Stable Manager/Yard Manager.

  • To assist with managing, and maintaining a safe working environment for equine activities.

  • To assist in maintaining the Equine Department facilities and equipment to a high standard.

  • To help motivate and monitor students.

  • To liaise with the Yard Manager on issues involving equipment, safety, and inspection programmes.

  • To take responsibility for areas of the Equine Department as directed by the Yard Manager or Assistant Yard Manager.

  • To give safe and effective practical instruction to students and clients in riding and stable management under the instruction of the Yard Manager.

  • To promote and develop the good image of the Equine Department.

  • To assist in the management of competitions and clinics.

  • To liaise with the Stable Manager, Events Secretary, Lecturers and other members of staff as required.

  • Any other relevant duties as directed by the Yard Manager/Assistant Yard Manager and Event Secretary for the Equine Department.
