NCS Youth Worker: Team Leader

We are looking for organised, energetic, patient and empathetic staff with a passion for helping young people to fulfil their potential. You will encourage and support a group of young people through the three- or four-week National Citizen Service programme (NCS).
The programme is delivered over the summer, with start dates from late June until early August. NCS has several distinct phases:
- Phase 1: one week residential at an outdoor activity centre that focuses on adventurous and challenging physical activities
- Phase 2: one week residential in university-style accommodation where young people engage in skill-building workshops
- Phase 3: one or two weeks of non-residential social action where teams research, design, and implement a Social Action Project to positively impact their local community.
- Phase 4: a graduation event to celebrate young people's achievements on the programme
The Team Leader's Key responsibilities are as follows:
-Lead a team of 15 young people through all NCS activities, from their residentials to their graduation
-Encourage young people to meet their potential throughout the programme
-Establish and run daily reflection sessions with the young people
-Ensure the enjoyment and pastoral care of the young people
-Facilitate or help deliver skill-building sessions
-Manage young people through the Social Action Project
-Manage requisite paperwork for submission to senior programme staff and handle sensitive data responsibly
-Liaise with and report to senior programme staff to report or resolve any issues as the role demands
Essential Characteristics
-Experience of working and building a rapport with young people from different backgrounds
-Proven teamworking ability
-Proactive and adaptable with the ability to think on your feet
-Well-organised with a professional attitude to paperwork and record-keeping
-Comfortable reporting to and working closely with staff members
-Capacity to work in a demanding environment and the ability to remain calm under pressure
-Ability to inspire and motivate a team of young people and colleagues
-Willing to fully participate in all aspects of the programme, these include: camping, cooking, outdoor activities, and skill-building workshops
-A cheerful disposition and a can-do attitude
-Be able to interact comfortably with guests and external providers
-Empathetic with an ability to build trust with a team
Qualifications
- Employment is subject to the provision of satisfactory references and the completion of an enhanced DBS Check.
