Job Description
Would you like to be part of a forward thinking progressive service? Do you want to develop your skills, with the backing of a well-developed nursing team, and have the opportunity to participate in appropriate training for this role? If the answer is yes, we have Apprentice Healthcare Worker vacancies at the Trevor Gibbens Unit, Maidstone.
The unit specialises in the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders, serving the community of Kent and a population of approximately 1.6 million. The service now provides a total of 65 beds throughout a range of clinical facilities based on patient need. We are seeking to recruit a number of enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Workers, who have an interest in providing care to this group.
Treatment, care, and advice is provided by skilled multidisciplinary teams, conforming to the Care Programme Approach and the principles of Valuing People.
The building has standard features of security for such settings, including airlock entry doors, alarm systems, separate facilities for visitors, and secure outdoor areas to provide fresh air and recreation for those who cannot access other on-site or community facilities.
Where possible, a balance has been struck in the design and equipping of the unit between the need for features of physical security and for an environment appropriate for longer-term admission.
Facilities for skills development and therapeutic activities are provided within the secure building, and further on-site rehabilitation facilities for those who are able safely to access a setting of lower security.
Staffing is provided at levels that maximise both the safety of patients and others and the opportunities for patients to take part in a regular, structured programme of meaningful activities, as well as the development of therapeutic working relationships between patients and members of all disciplines
The Apprentice Healthcare Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary care team and will have continuing responsibility to:
Deliver an effective and competent level of care under the guidance and supervision of the associate workers, senior associate workers, qualified nurses and occupational therapists, determined by the patient’s plan of care.
