Job Description

Wildflower Childminding has a great opportunity for you to join their team as an Apprentice Childminding Assistant. I am looking for an apprentice to work alongside other staff to create a happy and stimulating atmosphere where children can feel safe and secure and develop to their full potential. Wildflower Childminding is a 7 day a week setting, and are registered for 24 hour care, so I am looking for an apprentice to work 5 days over 7 with some weekend work, occasional early mornings and some evening work. Shift patterns would be discussed at interview, and any hours before 8am and after 6.30pm would be paid at a higher rate.



We provide high quality care and education for children from 3 months old to 5 years, where children will feel safe in a stimulating environment, alongside providing care and fun experiences for children aged 5 to 12 years old. We work in partnership with families, nurseries and pre-schools, to support children’s learning and development and the EYFS is at the core of what we do. Main Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Observe children’s progress and report on achievements and development, assist in maintaining records of each child’s day to day activities using Babysdays system.

  • Develop positive relationships with parents/carers/guardians

  • Assist in the supervision of children at play (indoors and outdoors) and at mealtimes.

  • Assist in the delivery of the EYFS framework.

  • Assist in the planning and development of inspiring, enabling environments where children initiate play.

  • Complete daily risk assessments as required and report any risks identified.

  • Assist in promoting an environment where children value and respect different cultures, religion, language and disability and ensure that toys and equipment used reflect this within the setting.

  • Ensure Welfare and Safeguarding Children procedures are followed and you know what to do in the event of an allegation being made.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to understanding how children develop.

  • Attend training events and staff meetings and parents evenings when required.

  • Undertake domestic jobs with the setting, such as preparation of lunch, snacks, cleaning of equipment and play rooms.

  • Ensure that you understand and follow the settings’ policies and procedures.

  • Be in tune with and meet children’s individual needs at all times.

  • Ensure every child feels safe and secure and that regular headcounts are completed when moving children around the setting and on outings.

  • Undertake a shared responsibility for Health, Safety and cleanliness throughout the setting.

  • Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times, this includes noses, faces, toileting and clothing care.

  • Assist in the operation of the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding, toileting, nappy changing and food service areas.

  • Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. fire procedures, routines for dropping off and collecting children and marking the register.

  • Ensure the correct following of the medicine policies at all times.

  • To be responsible for recording all accidents or incidents on Babysdays and ensuring they are signed by parent and carers before child leaves.

  • To carry out reasonable tasks as requested by Your Manager.

  • Be willing to undergo training courses as directed by the Manager.

  • To complete a Paediatric First Aid Course within 2 months.
