Job Description

For over 30 years, Ardmore Language Schools has offered international young learners a fantastic opportunity to develop their English Language skills whilst enjoying a culturally immersive and fun activity programme. We are currently looking to hire enthusiastic, and approachable Welfare Leaders for our summer programmes across 19 UK centres.

As a Welfare Leader you will provide pastoral care for every student, paying particular attention to individuals who are not travelling with a group or adult. You will be a welcoming and friendly person that young people can approach with any problems.

Ardmore Language Schools is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful candidates are required to provide criminal checks including a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate and/or overseas police checks.

Location: 19 locations across the UK; Bath, Uxbridge, Berkshire, Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburgh, Windsor, Henley-on-Thames, Swindon, Ipswich, Petersfield, Brighton, Eastbourne, Harrow, Central London, Reading, Hertfordshire, Ascot.

Essential Criteria:

  • Sensitivity to other cultures and diversity.
  • Approachable nature.
  • Ability to motivate and enjoy working with large groups of students.
  • Previous experience working with children/teenagers.
  • Ability to create and sustain working relationships with students.
  • Available to work for 4-8-week periods during June, July and August, on a fixed-term basis.
  • Always prioritise student welfare and implement our Safeguarding Policy.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous summer school experience.
  • Experience of counselling or mentoring young people.
  • Hold a valid First Aid Certificate, Lifeguard or sports coaching qualification.
  • Have experience of working with students aged 9 – 17 years old.

Main Tasks

To provide pastoral care for every student, paying particular attention to integrating individuals. To carry out pre-arrival and departure checks and damage surveys as delegated by the Head Pastoral Care. Maintaining student behaviour and supporting the activity and teaching teams with the monitoring of attendance/ recording of absences. Carry out residential duties on a rota basis including meal supervision, lights-out duties, night-time patrols, room checks and additional duties as required. To assist with regular fire drills as organised by the Head of Pastoral Care. To assist the academic team with test marking and diplomas.

Key Facts

  • Reports to Head of Pastoral Care.
  • 4 week contract with a potential extension.
  • 42 hours per week. (Some weeks you may be required to work in excess of 48 hours. You will therefore be asked to ‘opt out’ of the 48-hour Working Time Directive).
  • Residential option available with a deduction of £39.90 per week (£5.70 a day) from your weekly pay for full board and accommodation.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
