Job Description

For over 30 years, Ardmore Language Schools has offered international young learners a fantastic opportunity to develop their English Language skills whilst enjoying a culturally immersive and fun activity programme. We are currently looking to hire organised, approachable and helpful Centre Directors for our summer programmes across 19 UK centres.

The Centre Director is responsible for the overall running of the centre. They will lead the centre management team and manage the relationship with the host site to ensure our guests have the best possible experience. The CD will be responsible for the development of the management team on centre to ensure that all aspects of the centre are delivering high quality programme.

Ardmore Language Schools is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful candidates are required to provide criminal checks including a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate and/or overseas police checks.

Location: 19 locations across the UK; Bath, Uxbridge, Berkshire, Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburgh, Windsor, Henley-on-Thames, Swindon, Ipswich, Petersfield, Brighton, Eastbourne, Harrow, Central London, Reading, Hertfordshire, Ascot.

Essential Criteria:

  • Ability to successfully lead, develop and manage a team of managers.

  • Ability to liaise with Group Leaders with a customer service attitude.

  • Ability to build a positive working relationship with host site.

  • Ability to motivate staff and students.

  • Able to work to and meet administrative deadlines.

  • Strong organisational skills and proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  • Always prioritise student welfare and implement our Safeguarding Policy.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous summer school experience in a managerial position.

  • Hold a valid First Aid Certificate.

  • Proven leadership skills/managerial qualification.

  • Have experience of working with students aged 9 – 17 years old.

  • Valid DBS and/or Overseas Police Checks (Ardmore can assist with this).

Main Tasks

Responsible for overall management of the day-to-day operations of the centre, linking the Academic, Recreational and Welfare Teams to ensure:

  • HO receives accurate and current data on student and staff numbers.

  • The teaching and activity programmes are implemented effectively.

  • All serious incidents are dealt with and reported to HO.

  • The security and safety of students, Group Leaders and staff at all times.

  • Student and staff discipline is maintained appropriately and in compliance with Ardmore procedure.

  • Appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times (in consultation with HO).

  • Set up and close the centre at the end of the course and submit an end of centre report to HO including early and final staff appraisals.

  • Write a full report at the end of the course.

The Centre Director’s role is to ensure the smooth running of Ardmore Language Schools programmes and to maintain high standards of customer satisfaction. The Centre Director must maintain an excellent working relationship with the host school/college staff. Centre Directors must ensure that school rules are adhered to at the host site and be responsible for all aspects of student conduct. Centre Directors must lead weekly Group Leader meetings and daily management meetings to review the day ahead.

The Centre Director will create an effective and positive staff team ensuring that all staff are motivated to carry out their duties to a high standard and are enjoying centre life. Centre Directors are the link between employees and Head Office about shortages of staff, disciplinary procedures, safeguarding concerns and payroll queries, where appropriate.

They should ensure that information is accurate and clearly displayed in the Ardmore office (e.g. staff rotas, staff mobile numbers, group arrival and departure times, etc.).

Key Facts

  • Reports to Operations Director, Operations Manager, Recruitment Manager, Operations Executive.

  • 4-8 week contract in June-August with a potential extension, short fixed-term basis. Must be available in the last week of June for compulsory management training.

  • 48 hours per week. (Some weeks you may be required to work in excess of 48 hours. You will therefore be asked to ‘opt out’ of the 48-hour Working Time Directive).

  • Residential position. Full board and accommodation provided free of charge.

  • Evening and weekend work required.
