Job Description

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities.



Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.



Job purpose:



To collate and present information ready for invoicing in relation to third party incidents following damage caused to the network. Investigate and manage Public Liability claims against the business.



Position overview:



As a member of the claims team you will be given full training on our systems and procedures as well as being trained to investigate, defend and settle claims against the business.



The role will include:




  • Handling vehicle damage, property damage, and personal injury claims

  • Dealing with the client, solicitors, insurance companies, as well as direct contact with third parties

  • In addition to handling public liability claims against the business, the successful candidate will also assist in putting together and documenting claims for third party incidents resulting in damage to the network



Over the course of your apprenticeship you will learn to:




  • Make 3rd party claims to protect lump sum following incidents as per contract expectations

  • Pursue 3rd party details from the DVLA, MIB, and Metropolitan Police

  • Writing and responding to emails efficiently

  • Liaise with supply chain and appointed contractors exercising the contracts subrogation rights

  • Liaise with various departments/contracts to obtain information for claims

  • Attend sites to document and investigate asset damage/defects

  • Respond to all correspondence relating to claims including telephone queries

  • Defend, negotiate or settle claims against the contract

  • Raise and manage external payments using the company's corporate accounting systems

  • Understand and populate the varied fields within the contracts claims systems

  • Manage the claims management folder and understand the principle

  • Investigate potential 3rd party claims leads from network incidents

  • Understand insurance terminology and contract risk across all contracts

  • Understand the different KPI requirements

  • Maintain and manage an excellent relationship with the client

Skills Required :

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Good communication/negotiation skills

  • Detailed and methodical

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Full UK driving licence, due to nature of job role
