Job Description
Social Media Volunteers will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to fine-tune this flexible role according to their own interests, skills and knowledge. As a guideline, the main tasks involved include:
To develop New Roots’ social media presence. This might mean:
- Updating our online programme of events and activities
- Creating regular posts, shares and original content for our social media channels
- Planning and writing a monthly blog for the New Roots website, on a subject of interest to our young people and stakeholders
- Producing promotional materials and content for our monthly and weekly newsletters
- To report any concerns or safeguarding issues to appropriate New Roots staff
- To comply with New Roots’ Confidentiality Policy
- To participate in regular supervision sessions with the Volunteer Coordinator
Personal Qualities :
- Ability to work without supervision, once trained
- Ability to work in a team setting, communicating with different sectors of the business
- Punctuality - to turn up on time and work until the end of your shift
- Ability to take responsibility for your section, tasks and actions
- Flexibility
- Ability to communicate tasks and issues with colleagues and managers
Skills Required :
This role would suit someone who:
- Has an interest in online publicity or marketing.
- Is familiar with using social media to communicate and raise awareness.
- Can be flexible with their time.
- Is an excellent communicator.
- Is familiar with the importance of health and safety.
- Has an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Is a reliable team player with a sense of humour and a positive attitude.
- A full driving licence would be highly advantageous.
We select all our volunteers based on merit, using informal interviews and references to assess suitability. As this volunteering opportunity will involve direct contact with vulnerable children and adults, it will also require the completion of a Standard DBS Check.
Please note, New Roots is only able to accept applications from individuals over the age of 16. Anyone under 18 should discuss volunteering with a parent or guardian and will be required to return a consent form before any activity can take place.
