We were established in 2012 by Anne Morris. Back in the, ahem, ‘90s she was a Math’s teacher at Bury Grammar Schools and this instilled in her a lifelong passion for learning. In 2012 she read an article in The Independent which said “almost 50% of adults can’t do basic math’s” (we have the article framed here in the office if you fancy reading it in full. We also make a very good cup of tea too!).

It was from this that her idea grew. She identified that there was a huge untapped resource in those individuals taking a Gap Year between A Levels and University, and especially those who did exceptionally well in their exams. Not everyone on a Gap Year wants to travel and those who are staying put in the UK often crave something more intellectually stimulating than serving coffee or flipping burgers.

So, Anne’s light bulb moment was ‘why can’t I place these young adults into schools to tutor and support, and more importantly impart their knowledge, to go some way to reduce the alarming statistic (and all the while creating themselves some CV gold dust as we call it here!)’.

And so Yipiyap was born; we are a Gap Year provider placing into schools’ young adults who performed exceptionally well in their A Levels. Our in-school tutors support pupils in a number of different settings in English, Math’s or Science.

We’re a team of ten at our Head Office in Altrincham; this includes our Executive Management, Finance, HR and Regional Directors. Our last cohort of tutors for the academic year 2018 / 2019 totalled circa seventy. Our heartland is Greater Manchester but our geographical reach goes far beyond this; working with Tutors and schools in Cheshire, Yorkshire, North Wales, East Midlands, London, and East Anglia.
