Company Details

Oyster Worldwide is a well-renowned and highly experienced gap year and responsible travel specialist. Since sending our first volunteers abroad in 1999, we have grown and established links with worthwhile projects in 22 different countries across the globe. We are firm believers in creating a volunteer or paid work experience which is of value, and visit all of our projects to select only those where our volunteers will make a genuine, positive contribution. We take pride in the excellent support and personal service that you will receive from us. From the moment you apply, we will guide you through your pre-departure preparations, and be on hand to answer any questions before, during and after your time away.

Our wide range of programmes cover a variety of interests, cater for all ages, and span from one week to one year, making them suitable for anyone wishing to get under the skin of a country and feel part of local life, rather than just a tourist passing through.

Choose to earn money whilst working in Australia’s outback, or in one of its buzzing cities, or finance an amazing ski season working in a Canadian resort. Volunteer in teaching or childcare, whilst living within a local community, or contribute to important animal welfare and environmental conservation projects in a variety of exciting destinations across the globe.

Whatever your interests, and whatever your timeframe, if you’re looking for a life-changing adventure that will take you out of your comfort zone, and have you return with a broadened mind and friends for life, then we’ll have a project for you.

Animal welfare projects

Oyster Worldwide works closely with leading animal welfare projects and charities around the world. We’re always on the hunt for dedicated volunteers who can put their love of animals to good use by helping to promote the quality of life of many endangered or mistreated creatures.

We offer a huge variety of animal welfare projects. Volunteer with awe-inspiring sharks in South Africa, help to conserve the bears of Romania or Borneo, or contribute to the protection and rehabilitation of elephants in Thailand, Laos, Sri Lanka, Namibia or South Africa. Learn more about mischievous monkeys on our projects in South Africa and Malaysia, or get involved in marine conservation on our diving project in Thailand. Conserve turtles in Costa Rica, or head to Uganda to help to protect the country’s only rhino population. For those studying veterinary medicine, or interested in gaining a Game Ranger qualification, we offer internships and courses in these fields. If animals are your passion, there’s no doubt that we can find something for you.

Conservation projects

Oyster Worldwide has well-established links with several partner organisations dedicated to promoting the conservation of the natural environment. If you’d like to contribute to managing environmental damage, and conserving the natural world, in some of the most beautiful but endangered landscapes on earth, then look no further.

Become a conservation volunteer in Australia or New Zealand, or venture to the Galapagos Islands to play a role in preserving this unique ecosystem. Work alongside game rangers on a private game reserve in South Africa, or experience life working as an intern amongst zoo keepers in Malaysia. Make a valuable contribution to the running of important wildlife sanctuaries in Ecuador, Borneo, Thailand or Laos whilst volunteering on one of our projects there. You will not fail to be satisfied and rewarded in the knowledge that your efforts have helped to conserve incredible natural environments for the enjoyment of future generations.

Teaching and childcare projects

The best way to see the world is through the eyes of a child, and with projects in Chile, Brazil, Nepal, Laos, Tanzania, South Africa and Romania, there is plenty to see. Volunteer as a teacher abroad, or work with children in a youth centre, for a truly rewarding experience that will give you, and the children you work with, unforgettable memories for life. If you love sport and want to pass on this passion, have a look at our sports coaching volunteer projects in Brazil and South Africa, or check out the opportunities that we offer working as a ski instructor in Canada or Romania.

Take the opportunity to enhance your CV by completing an internationally accepted TEFL qualification whilst living abroad in Thailand, and open doors to working as a paid English teacher in many destinations across the globe.

There is nothing more satisfying than watching your hard work begin to change the daily lives of young people for the better, and the love and affection that you receive from them in return will stay with you forever.

Medical volunteer projects and internships

A medical internship or shadowing opportunity is a great way to gain valuable experience which can be used to support future university or job applications. Furthermore, participating in a medical project is an excellent way to use your skills whilst volunteering overseas. Oyster Worldwide offers several fantastic medical opportunities in India or Romania which will help you to build your employability and gain a great insight into the practices of medical institutions around the world.

Paid work

Securing a job overseas is the perfect way to spend some time abroad and get paid for the privilege! Here at Oyster Worldwide, we can help you to do just that. From summer work in Canada, to paid ski seasons in some of the world’s top resorts; from exciting city work in Australia or New Zealand, to getting down on the farm with our Outback work programme, we are sure that we will have something for you.

Working abroad will enhance your CV, and help your future career prospects, by showing potential employers that you are able to live overseas and hold down a paid job whilst doing so. Plus, you will also have the chance to fund your own travel at the same time. Most of our paid-work programmes run for 3 – 6 months, but some people choose to work abroad for a year.

If you’re stuck for gap year ideas, and the thought of volunteering is not for you, a paid work programme abroad could be just what you are looking for.

Ski seasons

At Oyster Worldwide we offer ski seasons in some of the world’s top resorts, including Canada’s Whistler Blackcomb. Become a qualified ski or snowboard instructor, or work in hospitality, whilst having the opportunity to enjoy getting out on the slopes during your time off. If working’s not for you, then check out our ski and snowboarding courses in Jasper and Whistler, and dedicate your time away to improving your skills on the slopes. You will be expected to work hard in your training or job, but also be able play hard on your days off, experiencing all that Canada’s world class resorts have to offer. We have a huge variety of ski season jobs and courses on offer, and are confident that one will be right for you.

Trekking

Challenge yourself with an expedition into the majestic Himalayas and join one of our organised trekking groups as they head into this beautiful mountain kingdom. Oyster Worldwide offers a selection of well-organised and expertly led treks for all abilities. Those new to trekking can choose the Poon Hill Trek through some of the most popular sections of the Annapurna Trail. More experienced hikers can head up to Annapurna Base Camp, or even conquer the route to Everest Base Camp itself. With so much spectacular scenery to admire, and the chance to explore the historical city of Kathmandu whilst getting to know the local people, you will not be disappointed with your time spent in the heights of Nepal’s mountainous region.
