Company DetailsWalkabout is a chain of around 20 Australian-themed pubs in the UK. The company employs over 800 people in full and part time jobs and has a head office in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. Walkabout pubs attract a young crowd, with big sports matches and events such as Aussie Rules Football, the Cricket World Cup and the Grand National showing live throughout the year. Their food menu includes Australian-slanted meals such as the (kanga)Roo Burgers, Barramundi Fish & Chips, Bondi Fish Burgers and the Aussie Wild Boar Burger - but Walkabout serve a host of other dishes which aren’t from Down Under. Walkabout pubs are popular with students because they offer ‘Mates Rates’ if you show your student ID - in fact, you can even get your very own Walkabout ‘Mates Rates’ Card if you’re a student. The first Walkabout opened in December 1994 in Covent Garden, London and the chain expanded over the coming years, having close to 50 pubs at one time. In more recent years the chain has reduced its portfolio of pubs and modernised from the early days of their ‘backpacker’ feel. At the time of writing, students could find Walkabout jobs at their pubs in Barnsley, Birmingham, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Carlisle, Derby, Exeter, Glasgow, Hanley, Lichfield, Lincoln, Liverpool, Manchester, Newquay, Plymouth, Reading, Sheffield, Solihull, Swansea, Temple and Watford. There are a number of different job roles available at Walkabout pubs. Of course, they advertise for bar staff and often have shifts for weekend bar staff only, but there are also other catering and hospitality jobs on offer at Walkabout too. For example, other roles that you might see advertised at your local include: front of house staff, promotions team members, chefs, floor staff, cloakroom attendants and cast members. |
