Penshurst Place has a long and rich history, being owned and used by Henry VIII as a hunting lodge. The house was passed down to his son King Edward VI and, then in 1552, was eventually granted to Sir William Sidney who had been one of Henry’s courtiers. The Sidney family continued to live at, restore and expand Penshurst Place for over 450 years - and the house and gardens have now been opened up to the public.
