Company Details

CeX has become an omnipresent sight on the high streets of the UK, with over 300 branches and growing. There are around 100 branches of CeX in London and the South East alone and dozens more in student towns and cities all over England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

CeX specialises on the second-hand exchange market in computing, video games, mobile phones, TVs and other technology products. The company started out as Computer Exchange in London in the early 1990s but later changed to the now familiar CeX (Complete Entertainment Exchange) logo to establish themselves as a more diverse trader of second hand goods.

CeX was founded by Paul Farrington and Robert Dudani with their first outlet just off London’s Tottenham Court Road. By 1997, the duo had moved outside of the capital, opening a store in Birmingham. The following year a further five CeX stores were added outside of London and the company went from strength to strength thereafter.

As well as becoming a success story in Britain with hundreds of store openings over the next couple of decades, CeX also branched out overseas and now has over 500 stores around the world, with operations in Australia, Ireland, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland,Portugal, Spain and the United States.

You’re most likely way into a store job at CeX will be as a Sales Assistant in your local branch. You can find where your nearest CeX outlet is by popping your address into their store locator and seeing what comes up in your area.

As a CeX Sales Assistant you’ll be the face of the business, dealing with customers and making sure that their in-store experience is rewarding. Reporting to the Store Manager, you’ll receive on-the-job training and will undergo regular performance reviews to keep you on track.

If you are successful as a Sales Assistant at CeX then there is plenty of scope to surge up through the retail ranks into supervisory roles or even Assistant Store Managers and Store Managers vacancies if you really excel.

On the support side of the CeX business, you could also find full or part time work in finance, IT, Human Resources, customer services, security or E-Commerce.

Explaining the company’s ambitious expansion plan and giving details of their recruitment programme, the CeX careers pages say:

“We're always looking for new recruits to join the CeX family to help us in our plan for world domination. The CeX recruitment process consists of several stages. The initial part is a knowledge test conducted over the phone. You will be asked 10 questions about the products we trade in. If you know your products, your application will be passed to the appropriate shop manager for a possible interview. If you’re successful, you’ll receive an excellent salary, generous incentives, a host of exciting benefits & unparalleled career opportunities.”
