Company Details

With headquarters in Cheltenham, Superdry, owned by SuperGroup Plc., is a British brand, coupled with the spirit of Japan, which is very popular with students in the UK. The clothes retailer has outlets all over the country, and there is hardly any major student or university town or city where Superdry doesn’t have a presence. Could you pick up a full or part time retail job at a Superdry store close to where you are studying?

Superdry was founded in 1985, but back then it was known as Cult Clothing. Founders, Ian Hibbs and Julian Dunkerton, expanded the Cult Clothing name from Cheltenham to other university towns and cities throughout the next twenty years, and the first Superdry branded store opened in London’s Covent Garden during 2004. An international expansion soon followed, and the youthful brand of Superdry hoodies, jackets, bags, t-shirts, jeans and more can now be seen in dozens of countries around the world, with SuperGroup Plc. having a turnover of more than £400 million.

But, enough about the history of the Superdry retail brand and why they set up in university towns and cities, how about students and graduates that want to work for the company?

Well, first of all, if you’re studying at university then there’s a strong chance that there is a Superdry outlet within easy reach of you. Students could be able to find a part time in-store retail job at Superdry within walking distance (you can find your nearest branch of Superdry by sticking your postcode into this page of their website).

Working in a Superdry retail store, you’d probably start out as a sales assistant, unless you have some previous experience of the industry, in which case you might be able to land a role as a retail supervisor

Giving a very honest appraisal of what working as a sales assistant for Superdry, one employee writes on the company’s careers site:

“It’s not always easy – we’re on our feet most of the time, we often have to work evenings and weekends, and if you’re working in one of our airport stores they open very early and close very late. The run up to Christmas can be incredibly busy and we have to work extremely hard. We always need to be our best self for the customers, so even when we’re not feeling great or aren’t in the best mood, we put that to one side and continue to deliver great service. Overall it’s a brilliant job, working with great people, for a fantastic brand, with excellent career prospects and benefits.”

If it’s head office work at Superdry which you are interested in then the company’s Cheltenham base provides jobs in all sorts of support roles. Just a few departments where you could land a head office job at Sıperdry include: Design, ecommerce, Finance, HR & Payroll, IT, Legal, Logistics, Marketing, Creative Media & PR, Merchandising, Property & Store Development and Sourcing & Production.
