Company Details

Simbec Research is a clinical research company based in Methyr Tydfil, Wales. The firm, part of the Simbec – Orion Group, is a leading contract research organisation in Europe which specialises in early clinical research services for the international pharmaceutical industry.

Simbec has been a trusted name in the field since 1976, so has more than 35 years experience in the area of clinical research. They have carried out over 1,500 early phase clinical studies and have created, planned and managed many other trials within a number of therapeutic frameworks.

Simbec regularly looks to recruit students and other young people to take part in paid clinical trials and is well worth looking into for anyone who can commit to visiting the company’s Methyr Tydfil centre for the duration of any upcoming trials.

Clinical trials are an essential part of the pharmaceutical industry because medicines which we all now take for granted (eg household name painkillers and antibiotics like Ibuprofen and amoxicillin) were once new and untested drugs which needed rigorous testing before being brought to the market. That’s why firms like Simbec are willing to pay good money to make sure that thorough, controlled and safe testing has been carried out before products are released.

The pay for taking part in Simbec studies varies widely - and depends on the nature of the particular study - but can pay anything from around £650 to way in excess of £2,000 on successful completion of a clinical trial.

To take part in a trial with Simbec you will need to have been registered with a GP in the United Kingdom for a minimum of one year. You will also be required to perform a full medical and physical examination and take blood sample & urine screen in order to be eligible for a clinical trial with Simbec.

Explaining what a typical paid clinical trial might entail, Simbec say:

“During the actual trial, you will more than likely have blood samples taken at set times throughout your stay. In addition, you may have your blood pressure and heart monitored periodically. Whilst on a study, you will have lots of time to relax, catch up on some studying using our free wi-fi access, or just chill out playing pool or testing your knowledge and skill by playing our board games.”

As well as clinical research trials Simbec also recruits full and part time staff within the ranks of the company itself. The company currently employs over 250 members of staff, and careers at Simbec include roles within sections as diverse as:
