Company Details

Halfords is one of the oldest and biggest retailers in the UK. If you want to hit the open road, either by car or by cycle, then it’s unlikely that Halfords won’t have something to make the experience that little bit better. From sat nav and audio to camping gear and auto parts, there really isn’t much that Halfords doesn’t stock in its product range of more than 15,000 items.

And, with so much to sell, Halfords are always looking for great staff to help them sell even more. The company employs over 12,000 people in retail jobs and support roles and they have outlets all over the UK. They have also featured on the Sunday Times list of 25 Best Big Companies To Work For.

Halfords was founded by Frederick W Rushbrooke towards the end of the nineteenth century. The company was originally an ironmongery business based in Birmingham, but Mr Rushbrooke soon changed tack and started to retail in cycling goods from a new store in Leicester’s Halford Street at the beginning of the 20th century. The firm has grown to a chain of more than 460 stores in the UK & Ireland and has profits in the tens of millions of pounds annually.

If you aren’t sure where your nearest branch of Halfords is then you can search by postcode, town or city on this useful store locator. There could be an Halfords outlet right on your doorstep which is looking to fill in-store retail roles right at this very moment.

A typical in-store retail job at Halfords, either on a full or part time basis, would probably see you starting out as a Customer Service Advisor. The emphasis on these roles is very much on making sure that all visitors to a Halfords store receive a friendly, knowledgeable and professional customer experience.

Explaining the sort of applicants that they look for to fill these roles, the Halfords’ website says:

“Customer Service Advisors at Halfords are enthusiastic, talkative and inquisitive about our products and the people who use them. To do well here, you'll need to share those qualities, and love working hard as part of a team that's constantly on the move. It's a busy job with plenty of variety and chances to learn new things - so if you have the right attitude and love talking to people, you'll thrive on it.”

As well as the full and part time retail jobs at Halfords, students and graduates could also look into work in other areas of the business such as logistics or at support centres in departments like Property, Finance, Commercial, Supply, Space Planning and Marketing.
