H&M employs way more than 100,000 people around the world, so you can be pretty sure there will be one or two retail jobs to suit you at the Swedish company.
H&M, short for Hennes & Mauritz, has been trading since just after the end of the Second World War. Founder Erling Persson launched his first shop, retailing in nothing but clothes for ladies, in Västerås, central Sweden in 1947. The firm expanded its product range over the decades and branched out around Sweden and into other countries around the world. H&M now trades in over 50 countries and has more than 3,000 stores in four continents.
The UK part of the H&M story started in 1976 when the company opened its first store in London. There are now around 250 H&M outlets across most parts of the United Kingdom and you can check where your nearest in-store retail job opportunities may lie by browsing their store locator.
In-store retail jobs at H&M take a number of forms and the company has a flexible approach to work which means that part time hours can often be found. Roles in H&M stores include sales advisors, visual merchandisers and cash office responsibles. There are also retail management roles available for people who can handle more responsibility and can commit more time to H&M.
Outside of the stores there are opportunities for students and graduates in other areas of the H&M business. The company’s online presence is huge so you might be able to find customer service roles within that area of the business. Other opportunities exist in Sales, Logistics, Production and on the Corporate side of H&M.
H&M also offer trainee programmes and internships to students, and again, these are often on a part time basis during term time or a temporary basis during the college or university holidays.
So...what sort of students do H&M look for to fill their retail jobs and other roles? Well, as their website says:
“..what truly makes us stand out are our remarkable employees. From stylish Sales Advisors and Visual Merchandisers to computer whizzes and business aware planners – all our employees share a great ambition and an anything-is-possible attitude. Not to mention an excellent eye for fashion...”
