Company Details

Wickes is has over 220 “Do It Yourself” stores in the United Kingdom and employs more than 6,000 members of staff in either full or part time roles. The company trades in over 14,000 different DIY and home improvement products and often employs students and graduates to help them sell in store and through their online retail website.

Wickes was originally an American company, founded in the middle of the Nineteenth century in Michigan by Henry Dunn Wickes. The DIY firm moved into the British market in the early 1970s and grew to a chain of over 40 stores within its first fifteen years in the United Kingdom. By the millenium there were over 140 Wickes in the UK, and the company, bought out by Travis Perkins in 2005, has kept up its rapid expansion to have a presence in many student towns and cities.

As part of the Travis Perkins family, Wickes achieved 6th place in an award for ‘Top Employer’ in 2010 - and the company tends to call its staff ‘colleagues’ rather than ‘employees.’

If you think a part time retail job at Wickes might be perfect for you, then you can find your nearest store by using their online Store Locator.

Typical jobs at a local Wickes store are quite varied but might include roles as customer assistants, warehouse staff, fork lift truck drivers, kitchen designers, bathroom designers, store managers and supervisors.

Headquarters for Wickes, and the Travis Perkins Group as a whole, is at Northampton, so you could find permanent jobs within the company if you are interested in working in a support role for a leading name in the retail world. Departments at Northampton include finance, legal, IT, property, customer services and HR.

The Wickes customer services facility at Northampton deals with over one million calls a year so should be a good option for students or graduates who want to work in a role like that but don’t mind a lot of hard work and responsibility.

Wickes also have a support centre at Harrow in London. Roles there include positions in Trading, Operations, Marketing, Retail Development, Supply Chain and Distribution.

Some jobs at Wickes are advertised online, but for many of the retail opportunities in-store, you might actually need to pay a visit to your local store to find out what vacancies are currently available.

If there are no currently advertised full or part time retail jobs below then you should visit the Wickes careers website to find about more about the roles on offer and how you can apply for them.
