Company DetailsIn 1985, we reinvented the concept of the low cost overnight stay by launching the UK’s first budget hotel chain. For over 30 years, we’ve been there for our customers in the right place and at the right price enabling them to stay away from home in a comfortable room, whatever their reason for travelling – whether visiting family and friends, arriving on time for a meeting, watching their favourite band or taking the kids to the zoo. Having worked in Sales within the hotel industry already Steven tells us why he wanted to work as a Senior New Business Manager at a nationally recognised brand and his advice for anyone thinking of doing the same How long have you been with Travelodge? I’ve worked in sales within the Hotel industry for two years, but only been with Travelodge five months. My driving decision behind joining Travelodge was the size of the company and the opportunities to develop. I’d seen Travelodge was growing which was important to me when looking at a new career. Being new to Travelodge, how’s it been joining the team? This is my first role in a head office environment and it’s been seamless. Travelodge have an excellent People team and an engaging induction programme. There’s lots of tools and resources available and even before I started, I was told about my enrolment into pensions and how to access the benefits system. On my first day I got my induction schedule for the week, and was introduced to my mentor in the team who supported getting me up and running. The office and team environment is fantastic and getting invaluable experience from people already doing the role built instant confidence to do the job, even in areas where I didn’t have any prior experience. What does your current role involve? My job is focussed on signing businesses up to Travelodge Business Membership. Day-to-day my role involves researching potential businesses, and contacting them by phone, email and through LinkedIn to understand their need for hotels and build relationships. I offer support and advice to bring companies on board and start using Travelodge hotels. I recently supported at a trade show which was a great opportunity to do something different and meet customers face to face. What do you enjoy most about working for Travelodge? Of course the biggest incentives in any sales role are the rewards! The bonus structure at Travelodge is very clear with lots of support and encouragement to achieve it. Individual targets are set quarterly and you know when you hit those numbers that you are making a huge impact on the overall team target and the company revenue as a whole. What’s your best advice for someone thinking about a career in Sales at Travelodge? In sales it’s important to understand the vision of an organisation and how you can directly influence the goal to achieve it. At Travelodge, we’re all clear on what we’re trying to achieve. It’s fast paced, but also supportive. There’s a lot of autonomy in the role with encouragement, reward, recognition and plenty of opportunities for learning within the business. Why would you not want to join Travelodge! |
