If you are a student looking for work in the north of England then you might have a chance of picking up a supermarket job at a nearby Booths.

Booths only have around 30 supermarkets in the United Kingdom, but they employ over 3,000 people - and they are always on the look out for hard working, good quality staff in the regions they do serve.

Booths is an old company; it has been around for over a century and a half. It started out a small affair with just one tea shop in Blackpool. Now headquartered in Preston, the Booths organisation boasts revenues of over £250 million and profits of over £5 million a year.

The majority of Booths supermarket are located in Lancashire, with 5 in Preston, 3 in Blackpool, 1 in Salford, 1 in Lancaster, 1 in Morecambe and a few other dotted around the county. They also have 7 stores in Cumbria, 3 in Yorkshire and one at Knutsford in Cheshire.

So, if you are studying at college or university in any of those regions then why not try to find a part time job or some work during the holidays at your local Booths?

If you want to work in store at Booths, then you will most likely start out as a general assistant unless you have some form of previous experience. Perform well and offer customers a great in store experience, though, and you could soon find that the training provided by the supermarket will see you moving upwards to become a specialist in specific products such as cheese, wine or fish.

And, if you are looking for something longer term then you could even start moving into management at Booths as a supervisor, head of department, trainee manager, assistant manager or store manager.

As well as in store jobs at Booths, there are also a few other roles available. You should check if there are any full or part time vacancies in manufacturing or distribution. Manufacturing roles include fresh food operatives and distribution vacancies can be found as order pickers or drivers.

If there isn’t a Booths in your area, then don’t despair - there are plenty of other supermarket jobs out there for students. Most of the big supermarket chains have a rolling recruitment plan so at least one of them should have vacancies at any particular time - especially during the holidays and other peak shopping times.
