The Devon School of English improves the English language skills of international students from their base in the lovely settings of Paignton and Taunton in South Devon, South West England.
For over 40 years, the Devon School of English has been welcoming students from all corners of the world. Students often stay with local host families meaning they receive a wonderful immersion into English life and language.
Course at the Devon School of English include General English, Business English and Exam Preparation English. There are also a number of “English Plus” courses which partner English classes with other interests such as music, art, walking or golf.
Staying in such a beautiful part of the country also means that there is plenty for students to do when the English classes finish for the day. A constantly changing list of optional activities are arranged by the Devon School of English for international students who are interested in getting out and about in Devon and Cornwall.
The Devon School of English has a staff of over 20 people in a variety of positions as teaching staff, admin staff, activity staff & activity leaders and school directors.
They often look for keen students and experienced English teachers to join their ranks in either full or part time roles. Extra positions can also be advertised at The Devon School of English during the summer holidays when they are at their busiest.
In addition to obvious teaching roles you would expect to find at the Devon School of English, there are also opportunities on the extracurricular side of the enterprise. Whether you are a activity team member or a team leader, you might be taking students to local sites of interest such as Paignton Zoo or Agatha Christie’s home at Greenway. You could also be leading them on activities like trekking, water parks, theatre trips, barbecues, DVD nights and country pub tours.
For teaching roles you will need to have a relevant qualification to work for the Devon School of English. For activity roles, the School looks for candidates who are flexible, enthusiastic, outgoing and approachable. It isn’t necessary, however, to be proficient in a foreign language since the visiting students are expected to practice their English skills as much as possible.
